Introducing Knight StarJoy!

Welcome back to the Woods, dear traveler!

After traveling over the Wood and meeting all sorts of wonderful Knights, I took a break to gather my thoughts. But my rest was not permanent. A Knight known as StarJoy was more than happy to answer my questions.. I found her seated at her instrument, playing with a skill not found in mortals. After listening intently to her music, I asked her my questions and she gave lovely answers with a smile on her face. Here are her answers, though I sadly couldn’t not include the music that accompanied the words.

1. How did you discover the wondrous world of Goldstone Wood? Was it a random find, or a recommendation? Did you fall in love right away or was it gradual?

My friend Maya Joelle recommended it to me. I liked it by the end of Heartless, but Veiled Rose swayed my opinion a little (I didn’t think it was very interesting and it featured a character that at the time I had a very low opinion of). By the end of Veiled Rose and definitely partway through Moonblood, though, I was completely hooked.

2. Who is your favorite character? And second favorite character?

Let’s see…I’m taking this as favourite BESIDES Eanrin, therefore… Aethelbald, Imraldera, Lionheart, Foxbrush

3. While Eanraldera is the best ship in the world, are there any other ships you enjoy?

If I had to choose one it would definitely be Lionheart and Varvare. Also Una and Aethelbald. Because Aethelbald is wonderful.

4. Which character do you connect to the most? Not who’s your favorite. Who reminds you of yourself?

I felt like Lionheart was the most relatable because I also tend to dwell over past mistakes.

5. Opinion on the Prince of the Farthestshore’s name? Yes, no, hate it, love it, want to laugh at it? (personally, I think of asparagus everytime I read it)

Hmmmmm. I don’t really have an opinion. (But asparagus is funny).

6. Tell me about a headcanon you have for any character or story.

A theory that I have is that Eanrin lost his eyes in some kind of fight, probably one where he was being restrained, otherwise he would have fought back, or that he allowed it to be done to him so that someone else wouldn’t get hurt.

7. Is there something you wish the author elaborated on?

Probably Eanrin’s eyes. And Imraldera and Eanrin, at least what happens to them after Moonblood (chronologically) What happens to Lionheart after Shadow Hand. While I do understand that she can’t go into everything — the best ones don’t — I do think it would at least be nice if she tied up a couple loose ends that seem to be hanging around.

8. Which book is your favorite?

Hmm, hard one. I love Starflower — Eanrin, Imraldera — and Moonblood — Lionheart!

9. Were there any scenes from the series that moved you? To tears, to laughter, to anger?

When I first met Eanrin (officially, in Starflower, I mean) I was not happy with him, to put it lightly. He was annoying — singing a song in GLEAMDREN’S praise on QUEEN BEBO’S birthday, I mean, come on — he improved on further acquaintance.

I loved the scene in Starflower where Eanrin finally met the Lumil Eliasil. Beautiful.

There are really too many funny scenes for me to choose just one. Many of the scenes with Una early in the first book are really funny.

10. And finally, would you recommend the Tales of Goldstone Wood to anyone? On a scale of one to ten, where would you rate it?

Okay, while I kind of dislike scale of one to ten questions — especially for series — I would rate it probably about an 8.99/10. I would definitely recommend it, but probably not to anyone younger than thirteen — twelve at the most. I think it has a good message, enjoyable and relatable characters, and a strong plot, but it does get darker — especially in the later books.

There are the answers of StarJoy! A bow of thanks to her for answering the questions!

May your Paths lead you home, traveler.
